Or
Up a not so lazy river with Rick Steves.
We last saw WE4 headed to a uno spuntino at HOSTARIA
Vite Rossa just a block away off Corso Del Popolo, a Sapori Tipici
{Typical Flavors… local food}.
A Tiny space with a cute little bar in front and about 6
tables in the back where they were immediately approached by Veronica who asked
“aqua sin or natural” {with or without fizz} and came back with water and the
days menu, handwritten on a 2ft x 3ft vinyl poster and stuck it to the wall
with a piece of tape.
Warm assorted focaccia and breads came next with:
“E Berre”
To which Chucky, practicing his Italian responded:
“Quatro Bicchieri di Vino Blanco,
Per Favore”
“Fornire un Litro”
“Si, Grazie”
“What to drink?”
“4 glasses of white wine Please.”
“How about a litre?”
“Yes, Thank you!”
Damn he’s good!
Deciding to graze the appetizers and split entrees, ordering
was by committee. The Meat platter arrived quickly as did he Fish platter.
It was a lovely assortment of soprasatta, prosciutto,
parmigiana, fruits, fried mushrooms and crusty bread. The fish platter had a mix of crab, octopus,
calamari, grille cod. Lasagna and a
delightful Tagliatelle with wild mushrooms and boar ragu were ordered to round out the "degustazione" {tasting - Family style}.
A wonderful start with such a variety of wonderful tastes and flavors but everyone was starting to feel the jet
lag and wanted to get on with the Grand Canal tour before they all crashed.
So the bill was called for and they headed to the bus stop
for the #4L to P.le Roma around the corner on Corso del Popolo.
The trip in was easy and they found the stop for Vaporetto
1, alllll the waaaayyyy at the end of the pier, just as the boat was pulling in.
The order of the day was to take cruise up the Grand Canal
using the Rick Steve’s audio Guide as
our tour guide. This is a great app where you can download certain audio tours
and use them when visiting certain cities and monuments. Each downloaded guide has a list of stops as well as a map.
For the Grand Canal tour, you start the audio guide when you
leave the Train Station Stop {Ferro Via} and using the app you start and stop according to
the guide. Chucky and DL used it the
last time in Venezia and it was great, so he had L&D download the app and
the other tours for Venezia that they will all use while there.
The tour went well [Lenny dozed through a couple of stops - HEY we did say jet lag, yes?} and they hopped off the boat at the San
Marco stop for a quick visit to St Mark’s Square so Donna could check off a
bucket list item. The Basilica was closed so that was left for another visit to Bella Venezia..
Then they caught the #2 Vaporetto back to the Ferro Via [train
station] so they could walk over Ponte della Costituzione the
Glass Bridge between the Ferro Via and P.le Roma to catch the 4L back to the
apartment in Mestre.
Once back at the Via Milano Bus Stop they strolled over to
the PAM mini-mart for some meats, cheeses, fruits, etc. for breakfast and a 6pack of litres of
water for the cruise.
A quick stop at the apartment to drop off the groceries and a trip downstairs to the little snack bar on the corner for a couple of cocktails
before heading up to crash.
All but Chucky who spent the bulk of the evening in the aforementioned marathon with
AT&{useless}T trying to fix the internet issues.
After getting it fixed himself, it was a quick shower and
off to join the others in Slumber land.
Tomorrow they meet with Nadia, the walking tour tour guide to “See Venice
through the Eyes of a Venetian” [her favorite tag line.]
No Scotch was injured in the reporting of this episode.
Ciao 4 Now
Uncle Chuck &The Jet-Lagged but happy,
Dragon Lady
